About this qualification

An Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector provides an introduction to teaching and training adults. It is an essential first step towards practitioner status - a license to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (England), as well as being relevant to other nations.

This Award is for new entrants to the lifelong learning sector who don't have prior teaching experience or qualifications. It also suits people already working in the area who want to gain official qualifications. You should have an idea of what subject you'd like to teach and either have, or be working towards, a qualification in that area.

You can choose the qualification that demonstrates the specialist knowledge and skills you have developed, such as:

  • Roles and responsibilities of teachers/trainers
  • Inclusive practice
  • Planning and delivering a session
  • Assessment.

What's involved in studying this course?

You will learn on the job in a work environment and in the classroom.

Assessment will be a combination of a short portfolio of evidence, practical skills demonstrations, and observation.
